OFFICIAL EVENT RELEASE: This weekend will see Sydney Retro Racefest return to Sydney Motorsport Park to put on one of the biggest historic motorsport events of the year, and we’d love to see you there! Let’s take a look at what’s planned.
The mighty Group C & A touring cars of the Heritage Touring Cars series will be headlining the event with three races and qualifying over the weekend. These magnificent machines are the legends of Bathurst and include the likes of the Sandown 500-winning “Godzilla” GIO Nissan Skyline GT-R, fire-breathing Ford Sierra RS500s, JPS BMW M3s, Bob Holden Corollas and more.
Joining them on track will be a beautiful and varied collection of historic sports and racing cars from half a century of motor racing history.
If single-seater Formula cars are your thing, you’ll be able to enjoy big-capacity bangers in the form of Formula 5000 as well as Formula 1s, Formula Fords and Formula Vees. Groups Q & R will put some stunning sports race cars on track, Group S will field a packed grid of sportscars in closely fought racing and Group N are sure to unleash their classic touring cars in a fashion that harks back to the golden age of the sport.
Speaking of magnificent fields we have seen a brilliant response from Regularity drivers, who will be hitting the track with particularly varied and lively fields throughout the weekend.
Amongst those Regularity fields will be a handful of Lotus Elevens which are part of a record gathering of Australian Elevens at Sydney Retro Racefest. Eight out of the eleven Australian cars will be heading to Racefest to celebrate their 60th and will be forming a display, with a few cars joining in Regularity as well.
On the other end of the spectrum is the brand new Lotus Evora 400, which Simply Sports Cars will be bringing along to display alongside the other Lotuses. The car is the fastest road machine that Lotus has ever made and its 400 horsepower is capable of powering it from a standstill to 100 kilometers an hour in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 300 km/hr.
We are proudly supported by Mercedes-Benz Parramatta as the naming rights sponsor for Sydney Retro Racefest 2016. Mercedes-Benz Parramatta will provide the safety car for the meeting and a wonderful display of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
